Tim Burton's Masterpiece
In 1990, right between his two Batman films, Tim Burton created what is still considered his masterpiece. At least, that’s how 54% of internet users described Edward Scissorhands in their reviews. With an impressive average rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars, it is regarded as the director’s best feature film.
Wrapped in a magical atmosphere that constantly oscillates between poetry, fantasy, and Gothic elements, and constantly benefiting from Danny Elfman’s fascinating score, this fairy tale as only Tim Burton knows how to tell highlights one of the most important themes in his filmography: difference and acceptance of others.
A First Collaboration with Johnny Depp
As for the cast, Burton enlisted the legendary Vincent Price (whom he greatly admires and who makes one of his final appearances in cinema), the young actress Winona Ryder (already seen in Beetlejuice and currently in the cast of the famous series Stranger Things), and, of course, Johnny Depp, marking his first collaboration with the director.
Fascinated by the young actor, who he found to be a true alter ego, Burton called on him several times, notably in films such as Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
